8th Grade Trip to Washington DC and New York City
Students get to experience two of America's most diverse and busy cultural and historical cities on our trip! Through a nomination process, students are recommended at the end of their 7th grade year for the trip and have the opportunity to attend and informational meeting regarding the trip.
Our trip focuses on the educational extension of seeing aspects of American History come to life. Our trip visits key memorials around Washington DC dedicated to important people and events, like the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials. We also see memorials dedicated to World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. We got to visit multiple Smithsonian Museums, such as American History, World History, and the African American History Museum. Typically each year we get to visit the Holocaust Museum for an important and powerful reminder about how our treatment of others matters - no matter which era of time you live in.
We typically stop at Mount Vernon on our way out of Washington DC. In 2025, we are switching locations and heading to Gettysburg Battlefield. We ride our coach bus to New York City to experience the fast-paced and exciting city! We visit Rockefeller Center, at least one skyscraper building, the Statue of Liberty, and Times Square. The highlight of NYC is always the Broadway show! We have seen Blue Man Group, Wicked, Hamilton, and The Lion King! There is always time for some souvenir shopping and some great picture stops along the way too!
It is a busy, but rewarding week! Definitely a core memory experience!
